Peak Stress15:07TRANSITIONackedAcknowledged: Peak-stress checkpoint tracking the active hot-dry plan. Current state is VENTILATE with full cooling stack and fog active: 85.4F vs 84F high, VPD 1.42 vs 1.22 high, dew margin safe at 11.3F, no VPD-low or dew-risk signal. Active tunables are already at the aggressive hot-dry posture (mister_engage_kpa 1.25 near band, mister_all_kpa 1.42, pulse_gap 18s, fog_escalation_kpa 0... Resolved 15:08 MDT.
Decline19:28TRANSITIONackedAcknowledged: Decline checkpoint reviewed. Live house is still in safe hot/dry recovery rather than humidity rebound: 83.0F, VPD 1.53 kPa above 1.22 high edge, east 1.72, dew margin 14.7F, VENTILATE with fan/fog assist. Existing plan already delays taper to the 22:30 waypoint (raise engage/all thresholds, widen mist gap, raise fog escalation) after the expected VPD-high window through ~22:00. Immediate taper would close wet assist while the dry edge is still active, so no tunable change is warranted. Resolved 19:28 MDT.
Forecast deviation19:49FORECAST_DEVIATIONackedAcknowledged: FORECAST_DEVIATION assessed: observed cloud cover arrived much higher/earlier than the 20:00 forecast, but live greenhouse is safe and controller is IDLE at 82.3F, VPD 1.21 kPa near the high edge, RH 68%, dew margin 11.4F. All climate equipment is off, matching IDLE; no equipment fault pattern. This is a benign weather/forecast-timing deviation that reduces solar/heat pressure rather than a live miss requiring tactical tuning. No setpoint/tunable changes made. Resolved 19:49 MDT.

Forecast deviation20:49FORECAST_DEVIATIONackedAcknowledged: FORECAST_DEVIATION assessed as forecast VPD overshoot catching up to known positive VPD bias, not a live climate regime change. Current house is safe/near edge at 79.1F, VPD 1.24 kPa, RH 64%, dew margin 13.2F, IDLE; all major relays/wet actuators are off. No tactical tunable change needed. Resolved 20:50 MDT.

Validating previous cycle: iris-20260717-0547

Previous hypothesis: SUNRISE plan for Friday 2026-07-17. Yesterday was safe but not recovered: score 63.6, VPD compliance 35.9% vs temp compliance 49.1%, 14.30h VPD-high stress and 10.64h heat stress, no cold/VPD-low stress, dp_margin_min 8.4F. I scored the governing sunrise plan 5/10 for correct hot-dry diagnosis and dew safety, but plan_evaluate returned anchor 2 because 952 guardrail events and 861 held-by-guardrail events mean the plan was materially reshaped. This plan accepts the anchor warning by using bounded ClimateIntent rather than raw threshold thinking, and grades success as dew-safe severity reduction plus lower guardrail dependence, not full corridor recovery during physics-limited July heat. Retrieval was attempted as required but degraded because knowledge_search and lessons_search require OPENAI_API_KEY; static site context and plan coverage validation are also missing. Result: Scoped window score was 66.4 with temp compliance 50.0% and VPD compliance 38.7%. The reset plan correctly kept dew safety and avoided cold/VPD-low stress, but it did not materially restore the dry edge: scoped heat stress was 1.95h and VPD-high stress was 2.58h during the short overnight/early-morning window. The plan should be treated as a safe hot-dry handoff rather than a clean recovery experiment; later daylight stress remained dominated by physics-limited heat and VPD-high conditions. Score: 5/10

New finding: On July hot-dry reset windows, reopening band-coupled wet assist before sunrise preserves dew safety but should not be scored as recovery unless the following dawn or morning window shows VPD-high severity materially below the recent baseline and fewer guardrail-held/missed wet-assist materializations. → Added to Lessons Learned

Hypothesis

Testing: Guardrail-compatible Saturday hot-dry posture: preserve dew safety and keep daylight wet/fog assist band-coupled; judge success by lower VPD/heat severity and fewer guardrail conflicts, not full corridor recovery. Expected outcome: By sunset/midnight: 0h dew-risk, cold, and VPD-low stress; VPD-high and heat stress likely persist but should stay near or below recent hot-dry baseline severity; wet/fog assist should remain available during daylight VENTILATE while dew margin is safe.

Reflection

Validating previous cycle: iris-20260717-2028

Previous hypothesis: SUNSET overnight plan for Friday 2026-07-17. Today scored 68.6, above the 7-day average 64.2, but still strongly bottlenecked by VPD: temp compliance 51.3% versus VPD compliance 36.8%, with 11.68h VPD-high stress and 8.12h heat stress, no cold or VPD-low stress, and dew safety held at dp_margin_min 9.0F / 0.0 dp_risk_hours. Resource cost terms remain unavailable; water was about 325 gal today versus 343 gal 7-day average, so the main resource constraint is water/wear rather than trusted cost accounting. I evaluated iris-20260717-0016 at 6/10 for safe pre-dawn operation, but plan_evaluate returned deterministic anchor 3 due 765 VPD-high guardrail events and 727 held-by-guardrail events; I accept the warning and treat recent plans as safe severity-reduction attempts, not clean parameter experiments. Current house is safe and near band at 81.1F, VPD 1.18 kPa, RH 67%, dew margin 11… Result: Validated at MIDNIGHT using the scoped window scorecard for the period governed by iris-20260718-0547. The diagnosis matched the day: actual outdoor temp peaked about 95.5F vs 95F forecast and solar peaked 1037 W/m2 vs 894 forecast, with the predicted high heat and VPD-high windows both materializing. The plan preserved the important safety rails: 0.0h cold stress, 0.0h VPD-low stress, daily dew margin minimum 8.8F, and 0.0 dew-risk hours. However, it did not achieve material corridor recovery: scoped score was only 54.4, temp compliance 39.3%, VPD compliance 30.4%, with 5.63h heat stress and 7.17h VPD-high stress in the governed window; full-day totals stayed high at 11.09h heat and 14.13h VPD-high stress. Water rose to 359 gal total and 162 gal misting-only versus a 345 gal 7-day water average, so the extra wet assist bought safety/severity mitigation but not a clean compliance win. The rationale items for earlier mist/fog were directionally correct but guardrail-heavy materialization and physical cooling limits mean they should be treated as severity-reduction attempts, not successful recovery experiments. The structured stress-window severity matched reality, but the expected effects of band-coupled S1/all-zone mist and daylight fog did not reduce VPD-high below the recent July baseline. Score: 4/10

New finding: On July extreme hot-dry days with solar near or above 1000 W/m2 and outdoor highs around 95F+, band-coupled wet assist and fog escalation can preserve dew safety and avoid VPD-low overshoot, but should be scored as severity mitigation rather than recovery unless scoped VPD-high hours fall below the recent baseline; repeated guardrail materialization means future plans should request guardrail-compatible wet-assist values directly instead of relying on dispatcher correction. → Added to Lessons Learned

Hypothesis

Testing: Guardrail-compatible hot-dry severity-reduction test: request band-coupled wet/fog assist via bounded ClimateIntent and judge success by lower VPD-high severity, dew safety, and fewer guardrail-held materializations, not full corridor recovery during physics-limited peak heat. Expected outcome: Dew risk remains 0h with dp_margin_min above 8F; VPD-high stress should stay below yesterday’s 14.53h if guardrail-compatible materialization succeeds; heat stress may remain structural near 8-11h under 95F clear conditions; water may run near or slightly above the 343 gal 7-day average but should not be clipped by the daily wet budget.

repeat compliance-first wet assist for Sunday 98-99F and RH 14-16%; preserve dew floor and taper only after measured recovery

pre-stage bounded wet/fog assist for the Monday extreme heat outlook; expect structural heat stress and prioritize safety plus VPD severity reduction

Parameter rationale

mister_engage_kpa1.3 → 1.27; current VPD is safe at dawn but raw forecast VPD exceeds 2 kPa by 09:00 and corrected priors remain above the crop corridor

keep S1 wet assist band-coupled near vpd_high+0.05 instead of waiting for severe dry-out

mister_all_kpa1.52 → 1.45; VPD-high was yesterday's dominant stress at 14.53h and east remains the planted dry-side zone

make all-zone rotation available near vpd_high+0.20 to +0.25 during hot-dry ventilation

fog_escalation_kpa0.3 → 0.15; the 07:00-17:00 fog window overlaps the clearest hot-dry ramp and dew margin is above 8F

enable vent-fog assist sooner during safe daylight stress to reduce VPD-high severity

mister_pulse_gap_s56.25 → 22.0; solar reaches about 894 W/m2 with RH 15-20% during peak heat

increase useful wet duty during peak dry ventilation without changing crop bands

mister_water_budget_gal300.0 → 300.0; water use was slightly above average but VPD remains the limiting axis and dew risk was zero

avoid budget-limited VPD recovery during safe VPD-high stress while conserving by tapering duty after evening recovery

direct_wet_stress_latest_hour21.0 → 22.0; VPD-high is forecast to persist past sunset and recent clock-only tapering did not recover the dry edge

permit bounded evening recovery through 22:00 when dew margin remains above 8F

Reflection

Validating previous cycle: iris-20260718-0547

Previous hypothesis: SUNRISE plan for Saturday 2026-07-18. Yesterday scored 67.2, above the 7-day average 64.2, but it remained strongly VPD/heat limited: temp compliance 48.4%, VPD compliance 35.1%, 10.69h heat stress and 14.53h VPD-high stress, no cold or VPD-low stress, and dew safety held at dp_margin_min 8.8F / dp_risk_hours 0.0. Water was 350 gal versus 343 gal 7-day average, with 143 gal misting-only; resource cost terms are incomplete, so today’s resource constraint is water/wear, not trusted energy cost. I evaluated the completed sunset plan iris-20260717-2028 at 4/10; plan_evaluate returned anchor 2 because 408 guardrail events and 360 held-guardrail events mean that plan was materially reshaped. I accept the anchor warning: recent plans are safe severity-reduction attempts, not clean recovery experiments. Current house is safe and in the low-side morning corridor at about 70.1F, VPD 0… Result: Validated at Sunday SUNRISE using the governed overnight/evening window and daily scorecard. The plan preserved safety: no cold stress, no VPD-low stress, and daily dew safety held at dp_margin_min_f 8.8F with 0.0 dp-risk hours. However, it did not achieve dry-edge recovery: the scoped window scored 57.2 with temp compliance 41.1%, VPD compliance 28.8%, about 0.51h heat stress and 0.61h VPD-high stress during only 3.8h of governance, and the full Saturday stayed VPD-high dominated at 14.13h VPD-high and 11.09h heat stress. Water was 359 gal total and 162 gal misting-only versus a 345 gal 7-day water average, so water increased without a clean VPD compliance win. The forecast/stress framing was correct, but the taper was still mainly a safe handoff rather than recovery; direct_wet_stress_latest_hour also missed materialization at 21 instead of 22, so the evening recovery surface was less available than intended. Score: 4/10

New finding: On July extreme hot-dry evenings before another severe hot-dry day, a clock-based wet-assist taper preserves dew safety but should not be treated as VPD recovery unless the governed window shows VPD-high materially below baseline; verify direct_wet_stress_latest_hour materializes before relying on bounded evening dry-edge recovery. → Added to Lessons Learned

Hypothesis

Testing: Overnight dry-edge taper with dew-safe conservation, followed by pre-dawn reopening before Sunday’s extreme hot-dry ramp. Expected outcome: Maintain 0h dew-risk and 0h VPD-low overnight, avoid low-value water churn after 22:30, and enter Sunday morning with wet/fog assist reopened early enough to reduce VPD-high severity versus the last 7-day baseline even if peak heat remains physics-limited.

Cloud average

warm dry evening after VPD-high and heat dominated Saturday; dew margin is safe, east is the dry outlier, and Sunday is forecast clear/extreme hot-dry with raw VPD positively biased but still severe after correction

Expected stress windows

vpd_highmedium · 2026-07-18T20:27:00-06:00 to 2026-07-18T22:30:00-06:00

keep a modest band-coupled wet-assist surface while dew margin remains above 8F, but do not run peak daytime duty after solar is gone

vpd_highlow · 2026-07-18T22:30:00-06:00 to 2026-07-19T05:30:00-06:00

taper duty and increase resource/churn caution; humidity should hold better while sealed and dew margin remains safe

vpd_highhigh · 2026-07-19T07:15:00-06:00 to 2026-07-19T14:00:00-06:00

reopen compliance-first wet assist near vpd_high+0.05, all-zone near +0.20, daylight fog escalation near +0.15, and low resource sensitivity before the hot-dry ramp

heathigh · 2026-07-19T10:30:00-06:00 to 2026-07-19T14:00:00-06:00

use earlier thermal lead and solar precooling; accept structural peak heat while preserving vent-mist/fog assist

Parameter rationale

mister_engage_kpa1.0 → 1.34; solar is gone after sunset, house average VPD is inside band at 1.10 kPa, and dew margin is 10.5F

avoid low-value overnight water churn while preserving response if the dry edge reappears; pre-dawn intent returns it near vpd_high+0.05

mister_all_kpa1.2 → 1.57; zone spread is large but current house-average VPD is no longer in severe daylight stress

hold all-zone escalation back overnight unless dry stress is meaningful; pre-dawn intent returns it near vpd_high+0.25

mister_pulse_gap_s30.0 → 45.0; no solar load overnight and prior evening taper preserved dew safety without VPD-low stress

reduce relay/water cycling overnight while keeping emergency recovery available

fog_escalation_kpa0.25 → 0.15; Sunday fog window overlaps the 09:00-17:00 clear hot-dry ramp and dew risk is currently zero

enable early daylight vent-fog assist once fog is allowed, rather than waiting for severe VPD-high error

mister_water_budget_gal300.0 → 300.0; water use is below 7-day average but VPD remains the limiting axis and dew risk is zero

avoid budget-limited VPD recovery during safe Sunday VPD-high stress while conserving overnight by duty posture
