Peak Stress15:08TRANSITIONackedAcknowledged: Peak-stress transition checked via climate, equipment_state, plan_status, get_setpoints, and attempted knowledge_search. Live state is tracking the existing dry-day plan: 84.4F is only marginally over the served high edge, VPD 1.26 kPa is only ~0.04 kPa above vpd_high, dew margin is safe at 11.4F, and equipment is idle after recent assist. Active posture is already band-coupled and aggressive enough for the signal: mister_engage_kpa 1.25 near vpd_high+0.03, mister_all_kpa 1.42, mister_pulse_gap_s 26... Resolved 15:08 MDT.
Forecast deviation15:25FORECAST_DEVIATIONackedAcknowledged: FORECAST_DEVIATION assessed as forecast VPD overcall rather than actionable regime change: observed VPD 1.40-2.02 kPa is far below forecast 4.17 kPa, matching the known positive VPD forecast bias. Live climate is warm/dry enough to justify the existing active posture, and equipment is already responding with vent, both fans, and fog on; dew margin is safe at 11.6F and no stuck-equipment pattern is evident. No tunable change. Resolved 15:26 MDT.
Decline19:18TRANSITIONackedAcknowledged: Decline checkpoint reviewed: current house is still warm/dry with VPD 1.40 kPa above vpd_high 1.22, dew margin safe at 15.4F, VENTILATE active with fan2/vent and recent mist assist. Existing active plan already schedules the evening taper at 20:30, raising moisture thresholds and widening mist gap for the overnight window. Tapering immediately would close wet assist while live VPD remains above band, so no tunable change is needed now. Resolved 19:18 MDT.

Reflection

Validating previous cycle: iris-20260729-0558

Previous hypothesis: SUNRISE plan for Wednesday 2026-07-29. Tuesday closed at score 59.5 versus a 66.9 seven-day average, with weak balanced compliance: temp 51.6%, VPD 52.6%, total stress 19.98h. Heat dominated the daily stress at 10.30h, with VPD-high 6.40h and VPD-low 3.28h; no cold. Cost and kWh/therms fields remain unavailable/resource terms are not scoring-eligible, so I am not using electricity as a decision signal. Water context was 80 gal versus a 245 gal seven-day average, so water was not binding. I evaluated iris-20260728-2019 at 5/10, while plan_evaluate anchor was 2 because it found 665 VPD-high guardrail events and 624 held events… Result: Midnight-to-sunrise/early-day handoff was dew-safe and achieved higher partial-day score context than the prior day, but still produced weak corridor control. Window scorecard for iris-20260730-0016 showed compliance about 68.2% with temp 51.3% and VPD 49.3%, stress 1.84h dominated by heat 1.56h plus VPD-high 0.36h, no cold and no VPD-low. Live sunset/day score reached 68.2 vs 65.3 7-day average with dew margin min 7.6F and 0 dp-risk hours. However later day alerts showed repeated VENTILATE moisture-capacity limits and VPD-high moisture gaps, and recent clamp/audit data still shows held/missed moisture fields from guardrails. I score this 6/10: safer and directionally better than prior plans, but still dirty and structurally heat/VPD limited. Score: 6/10

New finding: When a severe hot/dry day follows a dew-safe overnight, keeping wet assist band-coupled improves safety and avoids VPD-low, but sunset plans should keep evening moisture available while live VPD remains above the high edge, then taper only after observed recovery; otherwise guardrail holds and VENTILATE moisture-capacity alerts persist. → Added to Lessons Learned

Hypothesis

Testing: Guardrail-clean midnight split: dew-safe humid pre-dawn protection, then explicit band-coupled wet/fog assist through the severe hot-dry daytime and dry evening windows, with a sharp taper only for Friday storm-humid recovery. Expected outcome: Thursday pre-dawn dew-risk remains 0h, Thursday daytime VPD-high guardrail holds fall materially versus the 602 events / 566 held events seen in iris-20260729-2019, and severe heat is handled as physics-limited while wet assist remains available during safe dry stress.

Saturday severe dry ramp keeps moisture/fog surface open all afternoon and into dry evening until observed VPD recovery

Parameter rationale

mister_engage_kpa0.82 → 1.25; current vpd_high about 1.22 kPa; pre-dawn raw VPD low then corrected daytime VPD remains above band from late morning through evening

avoid unnecessary pre-dawn wetting while keeping physical S1 wet assist guardrail-clean and near the high edge once dry stress starts

mister_all_kpa1.03 → 1.45; Thursday and Saturday dry stress is broad and severe, but only after the humid pre-dawn window clears

allow broad all-zone assist during confirmed dry stress without suppressing pre-dawn recovery or causing VPD-low overshoot

mister_pulse_gap_s30.0 → 22.0; hot/dry lessons support 18-22s gaps in VENTILATE dry stress; recent conservative requests were clamped repeatedly by VPD-high guardrails

reduce VPD-high guardrail holds and improve VPD recovery per water pulse during hot/dry VENTILATE

fog_escalation_kpa0.2 → 0.16; VPD-high overlaps the 07:00-17:00 fog window on Thursday/Friday/Saturday and dew margin is currently safe

make the 7x fog path available earlier during safe hot-dry conditions while keeping fog held back during humid/storm recovery

mister_water_budget_gal120.0 → 260.0; Wednesday used only 62 gal and water/cost are not binding while VPD compliance remains weak

avoid budget-limited dry-stress recovery without spending water during the humid pre-dawn taper

direct_wet_stress_latest_hour21.0 → 23.0; Thursday evening remains very dry through 23:00, unlike the prior humid-night forecast

permit bounded evening dry recovery when dew margin is safe instead of a clock-only taper

Reflection

Validating previous cycle: iris-20260729-2019

Previous hypothesis: SUNSET overnight plan for Wednesday 2026-07-29. Today scored 58.0 versus a 65.8 seven-day average. VPD was the tighter axis by compliance (50.3% VPD vs 54.8% temp), but stress was mixed: heat dominated at 7.22h, then VPD-low 4.07h and VPD-high 3.21h; no cold. Cost/resource fields remain unavailable, so I am not using kWh or utility cost for decisions; water context was 62 gal today versus 148 gal 7-day average, so water was not binding. Dew safety held with dp_min 6.4F and 0h dp-risk. I evaluated iris-20260729-0016 at 5/10 vs anchor 2 and iris-20260729-0558 at 4/10 vs anchor 1. I credit dew safety and no cold/VPD-low during evaluated windows, but the anchors were much lower because of heavy VPD-high guardrail dependence: 161/157 guardrail/held events for MIDNIGHT and 441/374 for SUNRISE… Result: Window scorecard for iris-20260730-0558: planner_score/compliance 60.9, temp compliance 41.0%, VPD compliance 38.3%, stress 5.11h during its governing window with heat 4.70h, VPD-high 0.76h, no cold and no VPD-low. Structured conditions were directionally right on hot/dry risk: forecast peak 96F vs actual about 93.8F, and the VPD-high plus heat windows matched the actual stress mix. Solar was materially underforecast (852 W/m2 predicted vs 1141 W/m2 actual), making heat more physics-limited than expected. The dawn VPD-low risk did not materialize; holding fog/mist back early preserved dew safety. Band-coupled wet assist prevented VPD-low and limited VPD-high relative to heat, but did not deliver strong corridor compliance, and recent guardrail/clamp evidence shows materialization stayed dirty around moisture thresholds. Rationale grades: mister_engage_kpa and mister_all_kpa helped keep wet assist available, but guardrails still lowered effective thresholds; 22s pulse-gap intent was consistent with dry-stress lessons but did not overcome heat capacity; fog escalation 0.16 was appropriate but fog availability/capacity could not solve the solar-driven heat miss; larger water budget avoided budget limitation, but 366 gal total water and 80 gal mister water show water rose while compliance remained weak; late dry-evening recovery remained justified by live VPD and safe dew margin. Score: 6/10

New finding: On very hot July days where actual solar exceeds forecast by several hundred W/m2, band-coupled mist/fog can reduce VPD-high without causing VPD-low, but heat compliance remains structurally limited; preserve dew-safe wet assist for VPD recovery, but do not spend extra water expecting it to solve the solar/vent-capacity heat bottleneck. → Added to Lessons Learned

Hypothesis

Testing: Guardrail-clean sunrise plan: keep dawn dew-safe, then use band-coupled wet/fog assist through severe hot-dry Thursday and the dry evening; taper only when Friday storm-humid recovery actually arrives. Expected outcome: Today keeps dp_risk_hours at 0, reduces VPD-high guardrail holds materially versus yesterday sunrise’s 441 events / 374 held events, and improves VPD compliance despite physics-limited heat. Water may rise above yesterday’s 62 gal but should remain within the 260-280 gal planned cap.

Saturday severe dry ramp reopens moisture/fog surface and keeps evening recovery available while dew margin remains safe

Parameter rationale

mister_engage_kpa1.32 → 1.27; dispatcher vpd_high about 1.22 kPa; corrected VPD rises above band from late morning through dry evening

keep S1 wet assist close to the high edge during dry stress without triggering unnecessary dawn wetting

mister_all_kpa1.52 → 1.45; broad dry stress is expected Thursday midday/evening, Friday daytime, and Saturday

allow all-zone rotation during confirmed broad dry stress rather than suppressing recovery

mister_pulse_gap_s60.0 → 22.0; validated hot/dry lessons recommend 18-22s effective gaps during VENTILATE dry stress and recent long-gap requests were held by guardrails

reduce VPD-high guardrail holds and improve VPD recovery per water pulse

fog_escalation_kpa0.3 → 0.16; VPD-high overlaps the 07:00-17:00 fog window with dew margin currently above 8F

make the 7x fog path available earlier during safe hot-dry VENTILATE while holding fog back at dawn and storm-humid recovery

mister_water_budget_gal160.0 → 260.0; water use was only 62 gal yesterday versus 148 gal 7-day average and VPD compliance remained weak

avoid budget-limited dry-stress recovery today without spending water while VPD is low

direct_wet_stress_latest_hour21.0 → 23.0; Thursday evening remains very dry through 23:00 with raw VPD 2.65-4.24 kPa

permit bounded dry-evening recovery when dew margin is safe instead of a clock-only unwind

Reflection

Validating previous cycle: iris-20260730-0558

Previous hypothesis: SUNRISE plan for Thursday 2026-07-30. Yesterday closed weak at planner_score 55.7 versus a 65.8 seven-day average. Temp compliance was 52.1% and VPD compliance 50.2%, so VPD was the slightly tighter axis, while heat was the dominant stress: 18.79h total stress with heat 9.65h, VPD-high 5.07h, VPD-low 4.07h, and no cold. Dew safety held with dp_margin_min_f 6.4F and 0h dew-risk. Resource cost fields remain unavailable; water was low at 62 gal versus 148 gal 7-day average, so water is not binding. I evaluated iris-20260729-0558 at 4/10 versus anchor 2. The gap credits dew safety and some correct stress anticipation, but the anchor rightly penalizes dirty materialization: 441 VPD-high guardrail events and 374 held guardrail events… Result: Sunset plan governed the dry evening/early-night handoff. Window scorecard was weak: planner_score/compliance 62.5, temp compliance 41.5%, VPD compliance 36.8%, with 0.56h stress in a short window dominated by heat 0.50h plus VPD-high 0.09h, no cold and no VPD-low. Daily 2026-07-30 closed better than recent baseline at 72.8 vs 65.3 7-day average, but corridor axes stayed poor: temp 48.9%, VPD 45.6%, 21.3h total stress with heat 10.29h and VPD-high 9.48h. Dew safety held (dp margin min 7.6F, 0 dp-risk hours). Water was high at 366 gal total and 80 gal mister water versus 62 gal 7-day avg, while VPD-high persisted. The plan correctly kept dry-evening wet assist available and avoided VPD-low, but it did not materially improve corridor compliance and recent guardrail audit still showed held/missed moisture fields. Score: 4/10

New finding: On very hot/dry evenings, keeping wet assist available until observed VPD recovers is safer than clock-only taper and avoids VPD-low, but it should not be counted as successful if guardrail holds persist and water rises without meaningful VPD compliance improvement; next sunrise should request guardrail-clean ClimateIntent values that match the dispatcher caps rather than relying on clamps. → Added to Lessons Learned

Hypothesis

Testing: Sunset two-phase taper: keep evening moisture-capable until observed VPD recovery, then suppress wet duty pre-dawn and reopen band-coupled assist for Friday hot/dry ramp. Expected outcome: Overnight: 0 cold stress, 0 dp-risk hours, VPD-low under 1h, and fewer guardrail-held sunset moisture rows than iris-20260730-0016. Friday handoff: moisture assist available before late-morning VPD-high, with heat stress recognized as partly physics-limited.

thermal lead, solar pre-cool, all-fan authority already enabled, and evaporative assist while accepting peak heat is partly physics-limited

Parameter rationale

mister_engage_kpa1.0 → 1.27; live VPD 1.27 kPa is near/above the high edge with dew margin 15F; Friday corrected VPD rises above band by late morning

keep evening and Friday S1 wet assist available near the high edge without encouraging unnecessary pre-dawn wetting

mister_all_kpa1.2 → 1.47; VPD-high and heat stress dominated today and Friday renews dry stress after 09:00

allow broad all-zone assist during confirmed dry stress while the midnight/pre-dawn posture holds it back

mister_pulse_gap_s30.0 → 30.0; recent guardrails already clamped longer gaps to 30s during VPD-high; overnight is not humid enough to justify a hard wet shutdown while live VPD is above band

avoid another dirty sunset unwind, while limiting duty after midnight through ClimateIntent mist duty and resource sensitivity

fog_escalation_kpa0.2 → 0.18; Friday VPD-high overlaps the 07:00-17:00 fog window and dew margin is currently safe

make the 7x fog path available during safe Friday hot-dry VENTILATE, while fog is naturally unavailable overnight and held back pre-dawn

mister_water_budget_gal280.0 → 220.0; water use today was high, but VPD-high still persisted; resource savings should come from the overnight taper, not from closing wet assist during active dry stress

reduce unnecessary overnight water while preserving enough daytime budget for VPD-high recovery

Lime TreeGemini Vision notes

Lime tree appears healthy, foliage is green. || Potted plants on the right shelving unit are difficult to identify clearly, but appear to be in acceptable condition. || Small tree in pot, foliage looks generally healthy. || The Lime Tree appears to be in good health, but the black and white image limits the ability to detect subtle stress signs. || Tree appears healthy with no obvious signs of stress. || Tree appears to be in good condition, but lighting limits detailed observation. || Vegetative growth looks normal, no obvious signs of stress.

Vanda OrchidsGemini Vision notes

Hanging orchids appear healthy with extensive root systems visible. || Hanging orchids appear healthy, no obvious signs of stress. || Hanging orchids appear healthy, roots visible. || Orchids appear healthy with extensive root systems visible.

pepperGemini Vision notes

Seedlings appear to be developing normally, though visibility is limited by the black and white image. || Seedlings appear to be growing normally, but the image is in black and white, making it difficult to assess color-related stress indicators. || Seedlings in hydroponic system appear healthy.
